A former military brat, Clarke grew up all over the continental US before attending the University of Pennsylvania, where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications. While an undergraduate, her passion for social justice and education reform introduced her to various grassroots movements, including the West Philadelphia Tutoring Project and the Media Mobilizing Project. She served on the board for UPenn’s Amnesty International chapter, worked for the Daily Pennsylvanian, and acted as a PennArts Ambassador. She has volunteered with the American Film Institute and DC Filmfest, and is a member of the Washington Project for the Arts and the Women’s Information Network. In her spare time, you can find her taking portraits of rescue dogs for City Dog Rescue, reading humorous memoirs, painting, and watching re-runs of Law & Order: SVU.
