2024 General Election Statement from URGE: Unite for Reproductive & Gender Equity

Statement from Kimberly Inez McGuire, Executive Director of URGE: Unite for Reproductive & Gender Equity in response to the 2024 general election results:
“We may feel disoriented and heartbroken, but the reality is this is the same country it’s always been —one where white supremacy and misogyny run rampant, abortion access is not a guarantee, and queer and trans folks are not protected.
“But we know how to fight back and take care of our people. Young people, BIPOC communities, and folks living in the South and the Midwest have consistently sparked movements for freedom and human rights under dire conditions and with little resources. Many of us come from lineages of freedom fighters, resisters, and everyday activists who have long fought for a better future.
“We know what a Trump presidency and Project 2025 foretell: threats to our families, our safety, and the ability to live out our potential. At the same time, this election proved once again that abortion access is more popular than any political party or candidate. The American people have delivered a powerful mandate to stop the suffering and deaths caused by Trump’s abortion bans.
“We need to embrace and protect our immigrant neighbors, our trans siblings, and people who need abortions, and we all need to ask ourselves what we are willing to do for each other and for our collective liberation.
“We must resist the temptation to scapegoat any group or demographic at this moment and channel our anger into a movement where everyone who cares about freedom and justice can belong. We all need a powerful vision of the future we can believe in, act on, and fight for, and we will build movements that do not dilute our values but rather uphold the vision and moral compass of reproductive justice for all, whoever we are and wherever we live.”
