Gen Z is Clear: Politicians Must Stop Attacking Abortion
Kimberly Inez McGuire, Chief Executive Officer of URGE: Unite for Reproductive and Gender Equity, on the increasing national attacks on medication abortion and abortion providers:
“Since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade and paved the way for abortion bans in almost half the states, young people have been showing their outrage in the streets, at their lawmakers’ offices, and by propelling winning ballot initiatives to protect access. In a recent poll URGE conducted with HIT Strategies, 71% of young people 18-29 years old share that they have a lot of concerns over access to and the affordability of healthcare, including reproductive healthcare. A large share of Gen Z voters (83%) report concern about laws restricting or banning abortion. This is more than policy; it’s personal. Three in four (77%) Gen Z voters polled are personally concerned about themselves or a loved one being able to access abortion or other reproductive care.
“Attacks on abortion access are just another way people in power try to punish and control our decisions. They know how unpopular this agenda really is, so they try to hide their true intentions. Young people aren’t fooled and aren’t backing down. We demand abortion access now. Period.”
