URGE’s Statement on the Supreme Court upholding Birthright Citizenship

Statement by Daniela Diaz, Senior Director of Federal Policy and Advocacy with URGE: Unite for Reproductive and Gender Equity

“Today, the Supreme Court stood with immigrants and natural-born citizens by upholding people’s right to build families safely and with dignity, regardless of where their parents come from.

Since President Trump’s first day in office, his administration has attacked immigrants by sending masked agents into our communities, arresting asylum seekers, and deporting immigrants who have no criminal history, among other cruelties. Today, however, the Supreme Court was clear: the Constitution, not the Trump administration, determines who is a citizen.

We celebrate today’s victory, but we know lasting change will not come from the courts alone. It will come from organized communities, sustained advocacy, and people across this country refusing to give in to fear and division. We will continue building the power needed to protect our communities, because Reproductive Justice demands nothing less than a world where every child and every family can truly thrive.”
