Senior Kansas Organizer

URGE Senior Kansas Organizer, Nigel Morton, stands with crossed arms, smiling, against a brick wall.

What I do at URGE:
After six years of organizing for URGE in Kansas, and nearly ten years of general community engagement experience, I am now the Senior Kansas Organizer. In the day to day, that looks like focusing on the community and state partnership, to ensure statewide collaboration. I help build and maintain the bridge between URGE Kansas members and partner organizations, to support further leadership development of members.

Advice I would offer to young Reproductive Justice activists:
Don’t let the expansiveness of the Reproductive Justice Framework overwhelm you. Start in your own neighborhood. Figure out which RJ issues are most immediate concerns for your community and who is already doing justice-oriented work. I’ve found that joining a collectivist group helps make difficult work more manageable.

My first “activist” memory is:
Going to an URGE Advocacy Day during my freshman year of college

When I need to recharge my batteries, I:
Try to get out into nature. I love to go on bike rides or take my dog to our neighborhood park
