Surprise! Anti-choice group fails to provide healthcare to Texans
As you may remember, this past August Texas shunted over $1 million away from women’s health funding and gave it to anti-choice extremist organization The Heidi Group. The Group was tasked with expanding availability and accessibility of women’s health care services through out the state, with the intention of focusing on strengthening the presence of Crisis Pregnancy Centers. Last week, The Associated Press reported that the Heidi Group has failed in these and its own measures of success. According to the Associated Press, the Heidi Group has failed in three simple but significant areas since accepting the award money. 10 Things Progressives in Texas Understand
Being a progressive in the south can be hard, especially in Texas. I know that it’s rough feeling like you’re always met with opposition, but we can get through it all AND affect change if we stick together. So I’ve compiled a little list, with the help of some fellow progressives, of the stresses, trials, and joys that we can all understand. On Family Politics After Marriage Equality
This week a lesbian couple in Utah had a child taken away from them in the foster care system because and placed with a heterosexual couple for the child’s well-being. There isn’t any evidence the couple was abusive or negligent to the child at this point. The couple passed the screening to be foster parents. The couple has been raising this child for three months and in a week she was taken away from them. This is not the first time a couple had to go through issues like this, there is a common stigma that gay and lesbian couples can’t raise children or that it is unhealthy for the child.
