Mobilize Your Community to Commit to Vote
What It Is
A commit-to-vote pledge is a promise to yourself that you will vote this year to protect your community. A commit to vote pledge can be signed either on a physical postcard, or digitally through URGE’s Ballot Ready page.
Why It Works
- Research finds that folks who sign a commit-to-vote card and receive a reminder before the election are more likely to vote.
- This tactic is especially effective with first-time voters
- Social pressure from a commitment – plus a reminder to vote – helps people stay connected to the election and vote.
How to Do It
- Reach out to your URGE staff contact to receive physical commit to vote cards and/or a unique URL for digital pledges plus flyers with a custom QR code.
- Bring your cards and/or flyers when tabling, hosting events, or connecting with friends and family.
- Encourage others to take the pledge by sharing why you vote.
- Make sure all sections of the card are completed, including their email and phone number. This ensures that URGE can follow up with them to remind them to vote.
- If someone does not want to give both forms of contact information, then prioritize email. This helps us better match their voter file, so we can ensure we are reminding the right person to vote.
- Let folks know their email and mobile number will be covered before being mailed back to them.
- Return physical cards to your URGE contact so we can mail them back to folks prior to the election, as well as provide you with new cards!
