Relational Organizing
What It Is
Relational organizing engages your network of friends, family, neighbors, and community to encourage them to take action on an issue with a specific ask.
Relational organizing:
- Meets your network where they are.
- Brings information directly to your community.
- Allows you to have real conversations with people in your life.
Why It Works
Research shows young people have lost faith in institutions but still trust their friends. YOU are the best messenger for turning out your networks to vote.
How to Do It
- URGE is using a relational organizing app called Empower.
- To get involved, reach out to ive@urge.org, and a coordinator will get you set up in the Empower app
- In the app: URGE staff will assign you to a Commit to Vote campaign in your state.
- Empower allows you to easily import contacts and send a pre-scripted message through your go-to messaging platform (text, Instagram, Whatsapp, Facebook Messenger, and more).
- Empower also allows you to easily post a link to the commit to vote pledge on social media.
- Once you’re on the app, you can easily reach out to friends and family encouraging them to commit to vote.
- Please note that personal information, such as imported contacts and phone numbers, is not visible to URGE.
