Alabama Acts to Block Anti-Choice Laws

April 25, 2013

escortingThe URGE chapter at University of Alabama has been incredibly active over the past month. On April 2, students held an event to lobby their state legislators, asking them to oppose the new TRAP laws moving through the legislature. The chapter’s leader, Amanda, spoke specifically about the impact of these laws on young people. They also established a partnership with the Youth Advocacy Council; an on-campus group associated with Advocates for Youth, and together organized a trip to Montgomery for a sex education lobby day on April 9. Students from the Alabama chapter also participated in URGE’s Sex [+] Week of Action, generating 109 petition signatures, and two dozen phone calls urging their representative to sponsor the Real Education for Healthy Youth Act.
