Activism is hard work! That’s why it’s so important to take some time for fun and to party with our fellow activists. Luckily we’ve got the Generation 2 Generation Celebration – it’s a chance to join together with reproductive justice advocates of all ages and celebrate the best of this movement!
And celebrate we will! Enjoy an open bar and delicious food while dancing to the music of popular New York DJ Whitney Day and enjoying a performance by Chocolate City Burlesque. We are also thrilled that Danielle Moodie-Mills, Chief Creative Officer of Politini Media, will be joining us as the emcee for the evening.
This year we will also be recognizing some true visionaries for reproductive justice:
The Outstanding Chapter Award goes to the University of Texas, El Paso and The West Fund for thinking big when things got bad. After the Texas legislature passed HB2, a bill that would decimate abortion access in the state, this chapter got to work creating an abortion fund called The West Fund that would specifically help people in their community of West Texas. The URGE chapter at UTEP has been able to launch this brand new venture while keeping up their rigorous campus outreach and activism.
The Steinem-Waters Legacy Award goes to Heather Corinna for her groundbreaking work in online sexuality education. Heather founded Scarleteen in 1998 and since then the website has provided inclusive and comprehensive sexuality education for the generation left behind by abstinence-only sex-ed. Heather also wrote the book S.E.X.: The All-You-Need-To-Know Progressive Sexuality Guide To Get You Through High School and College in 2007.
